7th Annual Stevetoberfest a Family Tradition

If you look closely at the poster for this years Stevetoberfestat Pateros Creek Brewing Company you will notice that it says “7th Annual” next to the date, September 22, 2012. Pateros regulars know that this small family owned brewery has only been open 16 months, so how can it be the 7th annual? Head brewer and owner Steve Jones began this event to celebrate his birthday and share his homebrew, specifically a Marzen, with friends. This years celebration is only the 2nd that will be taking place at the brewery, and not the Jones family backyard, but will still have a feel of a family birthday party.

When Steve’s homebrews began taking over his house and he decided to start his own brewery the entire Jones family rallied around him. In the beginning, you would find his wife Cathy or mother Pam working

the bar while his father Bob sold kegs to accounts. His sister Michelle would be chatting to a customer in the background while her husband Tim fixed whatever was broken and their children caught up with “Nana and Papa”.  I was lucky enough to get into the mix when I was hired to nanny Steve and Cathy’s kids, Dillon and Porter.

There are a lot more people behind the bar, in the brew house, and making sales now than a few months ago as the brewery grows. The expansion doesn’t mean the family feel has gone away. Whether it is just a night in the taproom or a huge event like Stevetoberfest, it still feels like a family affair as you are likely to run into multiple members of the Jones clan. There is still a running joke going after a customer suggested a flow chart to visualize who is related to who.

Members of the family will be there this Saturday, along with friends who need two hands to show how many Stevetoberfests they have attended and hopefully lots of new faces. There will be German inspired food from Matador Mexican Grill and The Waffle Lab as well as live music from several local bands including The Honey Gitters and Lee Holiday and the Time Off. You will probably see all of the Jones’ youngest generation playing games with smeared face paint and juice boxes, so bring your kids too. In fact, bring the whole family.

This years Stevetoberfest, a Marzen style lager will be tapped in celebration as well as some other surprise specialty beers. If your name is Steve, you can get your first beer free. Don’t forget to put on your lederhosen and head down to Pateros Creek Brewing Co., 242 N College Ave, this Saturday from 12-9pm.

Your article states this is going down on the 29th, but I believe it is the 22nd. 🙂 My hubby’s name is Steve too! We are going to try to make it!
