New Belgium Somersault

A friend stopped by tonight with a six pack, and it just so happened to be this years summer seasonal from New Belgium Brewing. New Belgium claims Somersault is a “fun roll around on the tongue”. I didn’t remember being to wild over this brew last year, but I couldn’t pass up a chance to try this years batch.

A few details on the beer…

ABV – 5.2%

IBU- 28

Poured from a bottle, into a New Belgium glass.

This brew poured a nice clear golden orange, with a creamy head that stuck around throughout and left beautiful lacing.

The aroma was of strong grapefruit and the tell tale centennial hop I’ve come to associate with New Belgium.

On the palate it was crisp with a thicker mouth feel than I remembered from last year. Slight hints of peaches complimented the retro-nasal taste of ginger. Others claim apricot flavors, but I could not find any. Unfortunately, it had a bit of a soapy taste that I really just couldn’t get over. It finished light and dry.
